Educational Programs Coordinator – REMOTE/HYBRID

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (www.aiaa.org) in Reston, VA seeks a Coordinator to work with our K-12 Programs supported by the AIAA Foundation. The focus of this position is to implement and coordinate programs that help students and educators engage and build relationships within AIAA and the broader aerospace community. Reporting to the Director, Foundation, and with guidance provided by volunteer leaders, the incumbent will execute specific programs and partnerships to increase participation and impact of AIAA programs that align with the Foundation’s goals and mission.

AIAA has a Flexible Workplace, where staff work primarily remote, but are required to attend meetings in the office and collaborate in person as needed.  Candidates must reside in the Washington, DC metro area. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Establish and manage relationships with educators, high school members, and volunteers to increase participation and impact of AIAA programs.
  • Implement the following programs:
    • Educator Classroom Grant Program:  coordinate the promotion, submission, review, and notification processes for the Foundation Educator Grants.
    • Mico-Lessons:  Coordinate the submission, review, posting, tracking and distribution of the Mico-Lessons to Educator Associates.
    • In coordination with the volunteer selection committee, administer high school scholarships.
    • Develop regular communication plan with educators to share opportunities available to them as members.
    • As determined by Director, Foundation, serve as primary point of contact in executing partner MoUs. Includes but not limited to promotion, process payment, announce winners, coordinate judging.
  • Maintain metrics for existing partnerships and programs to measure effectiveness.
  • Work with marketing team to ensure promotion and appropriate recognition of programs and individuals via announcements, presentations, and social media.
  • Maintain accuracy of program web pages.
  • Assist with the development of the Foundation budgets.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with Association management software, preferably NetForum
  • Familiarity with awards software a plus, preferably Open Water.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Familiarity with community engagement software,preferably Higher Logic
  • Familiarity with virtual software Zoom and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with external and internal management and peer-level personnel.
  • Excellent team player with proven ability to work collaboratively with members, staff, volunteers, and partners.
  • An energetic self-starter who can quickly adapt and thrive in a multitasked environment
  • Travel approximately 2-3 times per year.

Required Experience

Position requires at least two to three years of relevant work experience

Preferred Education

Bachelors’ degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
