Description/Job Summary

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is seeking a Product Developer who will be responsible for:

  • Developing or facilitating the development of new products and services for the Institute’s traditional product lines such as publications, events, and education as well as exploring new products, services, and communities
  • Ensuring all new products and services are designed to grow and support the Institute’s individual and corporate members, member communities, and nonmember customers and are aligned with the Institute Strategic Plan
  • Assessing product and service performance or position within product lifecycle and recommend future direction or product discontinuation
  • Facilitating the implementation of product and service improvements
  • Supporting the recruitment, development and ongoing engagement of communities adjacent to AIAA’s core membership and target constituencies

Responsibilities/Duties

Accountability:

  • Collaborate with staff and volunteer stakeholders to determine product/service goals, customer preferences, and product specifications
  • Recommend product updates/improvements based on the changing business environment
  • Lead collaborative activities such as design sprints or longer-term research and development projects ensuring all appropriate perspectives are involved in the process
  • Develop and document product plans, prototypes, and roadmaps
  • Consult with market research analyst or external experts as appropriate on product competition, sales and profitability forecasts, and market development
  • Write and present product/service proposals to senior staff and volunteer leadership for development approval and funding
  • Oversee transition of product plans into implementation by other staff divisions as appropriate
  • Monitor the execution of new product and product improvement plans by other staff
  • Develop requirements for implementation by new staff or departments when necessary
  • Prepare final cost/budget estimates
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales to plan product launch, relaunch, or marketing and sales campaigns

Position Dimensions:

  • Collaborate with other staff as appropriate to accomplish goals/objectives
  • Work through and across both AIAA’s volunteer and staff infrastructure
  • Cumulative travel of 1-2 weeks per year as needed to conduct research, meet with customers or report to volunteer leadership/stakeholders

Required Skills

  • Strong ability to review and apply market research and financial projections
  • Excellent verbal communication, meeting facilitation, writing, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategies
  • Familiarity with user experience design a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with proven ability to work collaboratively
  • An energetic self-starter who can quickly adapt and thrive in a multitasking environment and meet and enforce strict deadlines in a matrixed team environment

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with user experience design a plus

Required Experience

  • 2-3 years of prior experience in project management in publications, professional education, conference program development or similar professional society management
  • Experience working with an association or other member-based organization
  • Experience with Association Management Systems or Customer Relationship Management systems

Preferred Experience

  • Excellent Microsoft office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel) Office 365 preferred
  • Experience with Abila’s NetForum Enterprise System preferred

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree
