Description/Job Summary

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is seeking a Program Manager, Member Communities, Regions & Sections who will be responsible for recommending, implementing and managing programs that support the regions, sections and student branches that engage and build relationships within AIAA and the broader aerospace community. With direction from Managing Director, Community and Partner Engagement, and guidance provided by volunteer leaders, the incumbent will provide strategic oversight and programming, committee logistical planning of meetings, and overall assessment and insight into best practices for regions, sections, and student branch programming. The incumbent will provide support and knowledge-sharing and work with other staff to ensure proper training and alignment to the Institute’s mission and key objectives, and measurable outcomes as articulated in the AIAA Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities/Duties

Accountabilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Regional Engagement Activities Division of the Council of Directors and the committees that it supports, including the seven Regional Divisions and student branches across the Institute.  May include scheduling, organizing and administering both face-to-face and telecom meetings, preparing agendas and minutes of the meetings.
  • Work across the Institute to develop and implement value-added services and programs for those member communities.
  • Assess the health and activity of the member communities and work with other staff and senior leadership to ensure they have the knowledge and support they need to thrive. 
  • Determine the best and most efficient ways of developing the current and future officers/talent of the member communities via training and the sharing of best practices.
  • Encourage member communities’ members and officers to utilize the resources and tools available to them to ensure dynamic communication and efficient practices.
  • Identify the changing demographics in the member communities and strategically work with the them to ensure diverse and robust communities.
  • Work as a team player with other staff that manage other member communities to ensure consistent messaging and support.
  • Engage with the member communities to deliver value-added outcomes that support and the annual objectives as outline in the Strategic Plan’s implementation plan and the aerospace community as a whole.
  • Provide input into the budgets that support the member communities as appropriate.
  • Determine the best approach to recognize and promote section and student branch participation and awards process, via presentations, announcements and social media.
  • Review and recommend best practices to support speakers to the Distinguished Lecture program currently in place for sections and student branches.
  • Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of programs.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from members.
  • Provide guidance to other staff supporting the member communities. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director and Senior Leadership.

Required Skills

  • Excellent Microsoft office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel).
  • Experience with Association Management Systems, preferably Abila’s Netforum Enterprise System.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.

Required Experience

  • Five years of progressive experience in a membership organization.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Details

  • Travel at least four to six times per year.
